The Art of Talking to Yourself
by Andrew Downing
Every leader has a responsibility to get to know their teammates. Knowing who they are, why they do what they do, and how to help them improve is all part of outstanding leadership. So what about being a leader to yourself?
The Art of Talking to Yourself, by Vironika Tugaleva, is a self-discovery book to help lead you towards self-acceptance. As a sexual assault survivor, self-acceptance was a difficult lesson for Tugaleva to learn. In The Art of Talking to Yourself, she uses her insight and experience to guide readers through her journey. Even though Tugaleva uses too many metaphors, similes, and thought experiments, the story is a worthwhile undertaking.
Accepting who you are is empowering and gives you the strength to be a better leader. Choosing to be a leader means taking responsibility for going beyond yourself to help everyone improve. And you can't do that when filled with self-doubt and self-ridicule.
The Art of Talking to Yourself may not give you the answers you need, but it will inspire you to ask some difficult and necessary questions.
