Why Do You Give?
by Courtney Hyde
This holiday season, giving back can help you learn new things and gain an attitude of gratitude. Helping someone in need can put things into perspective. It’s an eye-opening experience that helps us count our blessings and realize the things we should be grateful for, especially during the holidays. Christmas is a time of giving and sharing with those around us, but that sharing is not limited to those that we love and care for. It is also for the person that we have never met and will never see; those that are not so fortunate in their lives as we are and that could use a helping hand.
Ria Severance - Board Member
Ria gives because of her passion and a sense of duty or moral obligation. She believes it’s important to give since we’re here to love. There’s nothing else. The collective giving of many makes a difference.
Felice Shiroma - Team Leader
Felice donates and gives because she believes in the mission and enjoys the other volunteers. She thinks it’s beneficial to learn from others, and the ability to solve societal problems is why it is important to give. She says it impacts the community by having better-informed, better-educated people making good decisions that benefit society. Felice is thankful for her life and loved ones, her health, especially during this time, and the holiday season.
Felisha Marecki - Team Leader
Felisha says, “I am currently seeking my purpose. Volunteer work has always given me clarity and an introspective look at myself. I also give because I feel my gifts deserve to be shared. Communities are built on each person supporting the ultimate mission of growth.” Felisha feels that it is important to give in order to be able to help more within the community. While each organization's impact is different, Felisha says that 50/50's is to support the financial growth of women.
Instead of getting caught up in what gifts to buy, spend some time thinking about how you can give back to those who may be less fortunate. Please consider giving to your favorite organization this holiday season in any capacity. After all, giving back is the best way to spread holiday cheer.
