Founders Message – June, 2021

In May we had Mother’s Day and college graduations.  June brings Pride Month, Worldwide Day of Giving, Juneteenth, and Father’s Day.

Let’s start with Father’s Day.  As a women’s leadership organization, that would seem, perhaps, counter-intuitive that we should be highlighting the day we honor our fathers.  Not so.  Without the men who believe in us and who believe in the rightness of women’s equal leadership, we will continue to make progress at the snail’s pace we are currently moving.  On our Editorial Team that puts together this newsletter every month are two fathers.  Andrew Downing is a new father and he really enjoys reading the books on leadership written by women or that can help women hone their leadership skills.  Jim Fitzsimmons is our Editor and supports us all in making this newsletter the professional quality it is.

My father always had a twinkle in his eye for me and wanted only the best for me.  Had he lived longer, I know he would have waved the banner for equity in women’s leadership once he saw my passion for it.

As you honor your father on June 20th, remind him that equity for women is equity for all.

On June 15th it’s the Worldwide Day of Giving which was started by Reed Sandridge.  He lost his job and spent a whole year giving away money!  I hope you will also answer the call, and if you choose 50/50 Leadership, we have lots of options for you to participate.

Let’s not forget our LGBTQ+ friends and partners.  They still face discrimination and harassment, here and abroad.  It’s time to let people be who they are and love who they choose.

And Juneteenth, June 19th, is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.  Just as it takes men for women to have equal leadership, so it takes Caucasians to end racial injustice.

Our June Roundtable on June 5th is Entrepreneurs Connect – an opportunity to mix, mingle, and meet other entrepreneurs.  Plus Holly Gottlieb, a master at building her own network, will give you her experience and there are sure to be ideas you can use to build your own.  Register here
