Book Review: A Woman’s Guide to Claiming Space

by Andrew Downing

I picked up A Woman’s Guide to Claiming Space after hearing Eliza VanCort present at an online forum. I liked what she had to say about what women can do to be heard in the workplace, and I wanted to hear more of her ideas.

Eliza VanCort is a speaker, writer, mentor, and consultant. She works with organizations and individuals on communications, workplace issues, and women’s empowerment. She is an expert on claiming space.

Claiming space is about improving your physical presence, creating relationships to further your career, avoiding toxic behavior, stopping aggressors, and supporting each other to create a better world for everyone. Throughout the book VanCort gives practical advice on how you can improve every aspect of claiming space. She provides deep insight into how and why women run into problems. It’s not obvious advice, and VanCort even goes into the psychology of self-sabotage.

A Woman’s Guide to Claiming Space is worth reading; no matter who you are or where you work, you will get something valuable from this book.
