Donald Trump is Impeached Again-
On January 13th, President Donald Trump was impeached for the second time by the House of Representatives. After inciting the riot at the capitol with tweets that later got him banned from Twitter, the Senate is now considering convicting him for his multiple crimes. After his many types of offenses, there is also the possibility of him being tried in Georgia for voter fraud and New York for his taxes.
Capitol Riot-
The US Capitol suffered an attempted insurrection on January 6th. After the above stated incident of Trump calling for this riot, many people were arrested and tried to defend themselves by calling out Trump’s request. Many extremist conservatives stormed the capitol, aided, in part, by policemen who were not stopping them, not enforcing curfews, and one who even took a selfie with a rioter.
Biden’s First Plans-
Biden plans to reverse Trump’s most controversial policies over a ten-day action plan at the start of his term. The four issues he plans to address are the pandemic, the economic crisis caused by the pandemic, global warming (including Trump’s recent separation from the Paris Climate Agreement), and racial inequality. While he obviously cannot solve these issues in ten days, he plans to take more action than normal his first weeks in office.
COVID-19 Rates Fall-
The flattening curve of COVID-19 is a hope for the residents of California. Recently, California has been under a more strict quarantine as COVID cases have been at an all-time high, but as they begin to go down, residents hope that they will be able to gather in small groups again. Unfortunately, hospitals are still at dangerously high capacities, so there may not be opportunities to go out for a while to come.
Period Products in Scotland-
Scotland has made feminine hygiene products free for everyone in the nation thanks to a grassroots campaign started by Monica Lennon, a member of the Scottish Labor Party. The Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Act makes clear that the products will be free for all who use them, and Lennon contributes the passing of the act to the way periods have more openly discussed. The struggle to obtain hygiene for menstruation became even more prominent over quarantine, so this act is not only important for women’s rights, but also for lots of lower-income people.
